CISP has been implementing cultural programs in Mogadishu since 2014, through specific projects and as cross-cutting activities in other sectors (Protection and Education).

The main objective of CISP program “Building a culture of inclusion in Somalia” funded by the EU, is to build more stable and inclusive communities through the use of culture and arts.

Culture is a fundamental pillar for the reconstruction of the Somali social fabric and it can effectively contribute to the peacebuilding process. The protection of tangible and intangible cultural heritage and the promotion of peaceful intercultural dialogue can foster the valorization of cultural diversity, promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence, particularly among youth, women, IDPs and minorities groups. The main expected outcomes of the project are:

  • Strengthened capacity of CSOs in the cultural sector to promote and protect Somali culture.
  • Increased access and participation of communities and CSOs to inclusive cultural spaces for culture.
  • Supported income generating opportunities in the cultural sector, in particular for vulnerable youth and women.
