Art for social change
In May 2018 12 participants representatives of various minority groups had the opportunity to learn about body mapping as a participatory art tool and engage into a critical and reflective perspective on inclusion/exclusion in their society.
The works produced in the form of life size paintings called Body Map, storytelling and life experiences around inclusion/exclusion allowed the participants to tell their life stories, share their concerns and aspirations with others, challenge established ways of thinking on inclusion, and lead to a better understanding and treating of others.
Since the method is inclusive, safe and expressive, individuals depicted in the body maps are never reduced to stereotypes but rather they express personally lived experience, hence have the potential to break down barriers, both in the process of their development and in sharing them with a wider audience.
